The Science of Crushes

Welcome back to the Psych Ward! Ever wondered why your heart races when that certain someone walks into the room? Or why their name popping up on your phone screen brings a big, uncontrollable smile to your face? Let's delve into the science of crushes!

When you have a crush, your brain releases a cocktail of feel-good chemicals, including adrenaline, dopamine, and serotonin. Adrenaline is responsible for that heart-racing, butterflies-in-stomach feeling. Dopamine, often termed the 'feel-good neurotransmitter', makes you feel happy and excited when you're around your crush. Meanwhile, serotonin levels actually drop, a phenomenon also observed in people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, which might explain why your crush keeps popping up in your thoughts.

Remember, while crushes can be exhilarating, they can also be nerve-wracking or even a little painful. That's perfectly normal too. The important thing is to enjoy the journey, learn about your feelings, and remember: we've all been there!
